About ATMA

The Association of Indian Management Schools(AIMS), established in 1988, is the second largest network of Management Institutes in the world, with more than 250 members, including IIMs, XLRI and other top Indian business schools. ATMA was launched in 1999 to meet the expressed desire of AIMS members for a high quality test, the scores of which can be used in the admission process, as a reliable predictor of academic performance in post graduate management programmes. AIMS offers the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA), as a credible, comprehensive and single-window test for admissions to different post-graduate management programmes. The first test was conducted on Sunday, February 20, 2000, at different centers in India (Bangalore, Baroda, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune and Vishakhapatnam).

The sixth ATMA will be held on Sunday February 08, 2004 at different test centers already mentioned. Test centers may be combined or changed depending upon the number of candidates in specific centers.

ATMA’s design is similar to that of Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). ATMA seeks to become a benchmark test in the world of management education. It is focussed on the student. ATMA does not require any specific prior knowledge of business or other subject areas nor does it seek to measure achievement in any particular subject area. The test is designed to assess the aptitude of the student for higher management education and primarily consists of sections on verbal skills, quantitative skills and analytical reasoning. Each section will be timed separately and the candidates need to answer questions in each section, within the time stipulated. They should not attempt to answer the questions in any other section earlier or later than at the stipulated time. Questions are of the objective type.

Eligibility

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Students appearing in their final examination for the Bachelors degree are also eligible to apply.

How to Prepare for ATMA

ATMA seeks to measure the aptitude of the student for higher management education. Such an aptitude in a person is typically shaped and developed over a long period of time and cannot be altered in a short frame. Hence, preparation for ATMA cannot be similar to that of university examinations. However, familiarity with aptitude tests and speed can be improved with diligent and regular preparation. AIMS does not recommend any particular preparatory course or training for ATMA, though these may be effective in varying degrees.
